BROAD OUTREACH
AND INITIATIVES
Initiative | Description | Participated in job fairs by station personnel who have substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions. | Participant in a job fair as part of the Lake County Fair at the Lake County Fairgrounds on September 2, 2006. Organized by The Lake County Business Outreach and Response Team. The stations had a booth and handed out materials to make the public aware of employment opportunities with our company. The stations’ Market Manager and General Sales Manager attended the job fair. | Established an internship program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. | Twice annually, area High Schools send job shadow students. The students spend 3 hours shadowing one of the DJs. Sometimes the High Schools send three students at a time. Approximately 8 students participated this past year. On February 6, 2007, students from Middletown High School and Lower Lake High School participated in the job shadowing. On May 17, 2007, students from Upper Lake High School and Kelseyville High School participated. Mendocino Community College and Yuba College campuses have been approached to send students interested in a radio broadcasting career. Currently, neither school has a broadcast curriculum. They have not sent interns to us. The licensee has an on-going “open” intern program for any student, college or high school, interested in learning the radio industry in both technical and administrative areas. There have been no participants during the reporting period. | Established training programs designed to enable station personnel to acquire skills that could qualify them for higher level positions. | The licensee has hired three office/Administrative assistants during the reporting period. The office assistants undergo extensive hands-on training to include, but not limited to, traffic insertion, billing, accounts receivable data entry, filing, website management, daily logs, and telephone skills, copy writing, and commercial recording. Since the beginning of the reporting period, the licensee has also hired three sales Account Executives. The Account Executive undergoes extensive training to include but not limited to how to conduct initial contact with prospective advertisers, conduct the initial fact finding meeting, write proposals, write orders, write copy for commercials and sell advertising to prospective local and regional businesses. The management team holds weekly sales/training meetings. | Participated in other activities designed by the station employment unit reasonably calculated to further the goal of disseminating information as to employment opportunities in broadcasting to job candidates who might otherwise be unaware of such opportunities. | Station personnel attend Chamber of Commerce functions, Lions, Rotary Club and other networking functions. Attendees include the General Manager, General Sales Manager, sales personnel, and programming personnel. Dates vary according to event or function. |
